Where to Start?
Most travelers who explore the developing world in a meaningful way have a shared experience - a desire to help matched with a sense of helplessness wondering where to start. After years of guiding trekking and kayaking trips in India, Tim Williams’ friendship with Tibetans in Sikkim created a place to start - Taraloka. Tibetan friends became colleagues in a mission to provide better opportunities for disadvantaged girls.
"Seeing the degree of need in India is overwhelming. As a young guide, I struggled to imagine how I could make a difference. The scale of need seemed to exceed my ability to help. BUT, with the inspiration of Tibetan friends in Sikkim, we realized we could provide a home, education, and safe refuge for twenty girls at a time. Taraloka made the scale manageable."

Making a Meaningful Difference
Larger organizations often have significant administrative costs and struggle to make donors aware of the real impact of their donation.
Taraloka works on a small scale that minimizes administrative expenses while maintaining a high quality of care for the girls and young women in the Sikkim Happiness Home. Whether you are a donor or a sponsor, you will know the impact of your kindness.
Made Possible by Roswitha Weppler
"Construction of the building was made possible by the vision and generosity of a very kind donor, Roswitha Weppler. The safe refuge we provide would not be possible without her."
