How We Work
Taraloka is a small non-profit with a very focused mission and structure. Our goal is to make sure you know the specific impact of your kindness.

A Simple, Transparent Structure
Taraloka's structure is simple. We are a registered 501(c)3 in the USA that supports and manages the Taraloka India NGO in Sikkim.
Our goal is to support each girl and young woman from the time she enters the home until she finishes college, covering every need along the way.
From First Day to Full Potential
When a young girl enters the home, she quickly learns she is part of a loving family - older sisters for inspiration and guidance, caring staff, committed sponsors, and an organization that will support them in every way.

She Enters the Home

Matched with a Sponsor
Each girl is paired with an individual or family sponsor who is committed to a long term relationship.
The financial commitment of sponsorship ends after college graduation, but the relationship lasts a lifetime.
If you are interested in sponsorship, please contact us!

03
Attends Grade School
Taraloka funds enrollment in quality private schools in Gangtok, where girls receive rigorous academics, English instruction, and the social skills to thrive.
Teachers report consistently that our girls are curious, motivated, and excellent students.

04
Pursues Higher Education
After high school, we support each young woman through university — whether at Sikkim’s top colleges or programs across India. She chooses her own path.

05
Returns to Her Community
Graduates carry more than a degree. They often return to their home villages as role models, professionals, and advocates - inspiring the next generation of girls to dream bigger. This is how supporting one girl transforms many.
Graduates Inspiring Change
Young women graduate with a degree, professional skills, and the drive to lift others. Today our graduates work across Sikkim and India in roles that matter.

“Things would be very different from what I am right now. If I had not gone to the Sikkim Happiness Home, I feel I would not have completed even class eight. I would have quit school and stayed home working in the fields.”
— Palmu (graduate and Project Associate at Meghshala Trust)
